Why Explore the Lake District by Campervan?

The Lake District is without a doubt one of the most scenic and popular holiday destinations in the UK. Known for its glacial ribbon lakes, rugged fell mountains and historic literary associations, the area is home to some truly stunning market towns such as Kendal, Ambleside and Keswick.

Boasting spectacular scenery and plenty of opportunities for outdoor adventures, the Lake District is ideal for families, groups of friends and couples who wish to rediscover mother nature. Swim in mountain waterfalls, explore lost ruins and caverns, and indulge in delicious local artisan cuisine during your fun-filled break in the Lakes.

Touring the open road with your family or friends in your very own campervan is a glorious way to explore this magnificent area of the country. With plenty of wildly interesting and beautiful places to visit that are all easily accessible on four wheels, as well as countless campervan sites where you can rest up for the night, it couldn’t be easier to explore the Lake District by campervan.

Recommended Places to Visit by Campervan in the Lake District

Whilst our campervans give you the flexibility and luxury to travel in comfort and style, we guarantee you won’t want to spend all your time stuck inside viewing the world through a window. Stay a while, get out and about, explore and soak up the atmosphere.

With two of England’s most beautiful and wild National Parks, as well as two Areas of Outstanding National Beauty on its doorstep, Kendal is an ideal location to start your campervan holiday. The bigger question is, with so much to see and do, where will your adventure take you?

If your family love exploring the wild, High Dam and Bobbin Mill is a fantastic spot to visit. Paddle and swim in rocky headlands in these two lovely lakes, hidden in Scots pine and larch woodland. Or alternatively, Rawlinson Nab at Lake Windemere is another naturally beautiful place to visit, boasting a remote, wooded peninsula on the lake shore with a stunning south-facing beach. It’s the perfect place to find some much-needed peace and quiet.

Swimming is a popular activity to participate in during a visit to the Lake District. Enjoy wilderness dipping, natural bathing and riverside picnics in the many locations that the area has to offer. At the top of our list is the breath-taking Overbeck Bridge on Wast Water, England’s deepest lake which boasts white, quartz beaches and crystal clear water. Overbeck Bridge comes complete with a dramatic mountain backdrop, and even a pub and campsite. For those with a taste for adrenaline, there’s also Blackmoss Pot at Langstrath, a gorge with a 15 foot cliff, perfect for jumping into the water and getting your heart racing.

Of course, a road trip around the Lake District wouldn’t be complete without a scenic walk or run, whilst you soak in the sensational beauty of your surroundings. The Fairfield Horseshoe is one of the district’s classic routes, rewarding visitors with fine views overlooking much of the Lakeland. Another of the county’s most renowned peaks is Blencathra, which features a rocky trail set near Skiddaw Forest overlooking the River Greta; ideal for a leisurely walk or exhilarating run.

We also have a great selection of bushcraft and outdoor activities on offer, including shelter-building, fire-making, mountain navigation and rock climbing. You can find out more about which activities are available and book them via our website.
