Our Top 5 Activities Whilst Glamping or Camping in the Rain

The sun is shining now and spring has very much sprung, but it was certainly a damp start to this year’s camping season. We all know that the weather here in England can be unpredictable, and sometimes good weather isn’t guaranteed even in the height of summer. But there’s no need to be disheartened – camping or glamping in the rain can still be great fun! You’ll still be able to focus on spending quality time with your family or friends away from busy daily life and enjoy getting back to basics. Here are some of our top activities to enjoy whilst glamping or camping in the rain…

Our Top 5 Activities Whilst Glamping or Camping in the Rain

Go For a Long Walk

If the weather forecast is looking a bit damp and dreary for your upcoming camping trip, we’d highly recommend packing some wet weather gear and going for a long walk regardless! As long as you have some good protection from the rain, you can still enjoy the wonders of the great outdoors. Trails and paths are likely to be quieter whilst everyone is sheltering inside, providing you with the perfect opportunity to explore at your leisure. Our camping and glamping sites are situated in the heart of the Lake District, with two of England’s most beautiful National Parks and two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) on our doorstep. There’s so much to see and do, even in the rain!

Bring Out the Board Games

Once you’ve dried off after a long wet walk, it’s time to organise the afternoon entertainment. We highly recommend packing a deck of cards and a couple of board games for your upcoming camping trip – you never know when you might need them! Spend the afternoon cosying up inside your tent or yurt and get a friendly tournament on the go. You could set up multiple matches against different opponents and keep score on a master scoresheet. Just make sure you have a prize for the winner! If you forget a deck of cards, don’t panic – we sell them at our on-site shop here at Moss Howe Farm. And don’t forget to stock up on the snacks, too!

Get Stuck into a Good Book

A rainy day is a great opportunity to catch up on a bit of reading. You can shut yourself away from the outside world (and your family, if you wish!) and spend a bit of alone time hunkering down with a good book. Whether you’re studying for an upcoming exam and need to catch up on any assigned chapters or you’re simply reading for fun, you can zip up your tent (or yurt) and escape from the bad weather outside for a few hours. There are plenty of great bookshops around the Lake District – so, if you’ve forgotten to pack any novels during your upcoming break at Long Valley Holidays, you can simply jump in the car and pick up your next great read!

Cook a Delicious Meal

Food has a way of bringing people together no matter what the weather is doing outside. So, why not get everyone involved in the cooking and spend some quality time rustling up a delicious meal together? Take your time planning a menu, shopping for fresh ingredients, setting the table, and cooking something a little bit more adventurous than usual. Long Valley’s luxury yurts are fully equipped with a functional kitchen. We provide everything you could possibly need to cook, bake and dine in style, including a wood burning stove with integrated oven and large hot plate. And what’s more, there’s no extra charge for gas! If you’re up for a challenge, you could even attempt to cook the entire meal using just the wood burning stove…

Relax & Unwind in the Hot Tub

This one is for all our glamping guests! Once you’ve finished tucking into a delicious dinner, why not spend the evening relaxing and unwinding in your very own luxury wood-fired hot tub? Soaking in a hot tub is scientifically proven to have a whole host of health benefits, including soothing any aching muscles and boosting your overall mood. Many of our luxury yurts come with wood-fired hot tubs situated on their own private decking area. The great thing about our hot tubs is that they can be used in all weather conditions – simply light the fire, add some logs, and wait for it to get up to temperature. Ahhhh, bliss!
