Spooktacular Halloween Events in the Lake District

It’s officially spooky season, and there truly is no better time of year to visit the Lake District. The ruby red and burnt orange hues of autumn are on display in all their glory, and the region is bursting full of spooktacular Halloween activities to get involved in. With haunted castles to explore, pumpkin picking and carving to get stuck into, and spooky stories to immerse yourself in, there are so many reasons to visit the Lake District this Halloween. 2023 Halloween Events in the Lake District

 

1) Walby Farm Pumpkin Picking (1st – 21st October 2023)

No Halloween staycation would be complete without picking your own pumpkin, and Walby Farm Park is the perfect place to do just that! Wrap up warm, grab a wheelbarrow, and pick out the perfect pumpkin. Once you’ve made your selection, you can begin carving the scariest design you can think of on-site, with guidance on hand to help out if needed.

2) Spook-tacular at Brockhole (14th October – 5th November 2023)

Take a trip to Brockhole and get involved in their annual Spook-tacular! Throughout the month, they’re going all out with spine-chilling activities including Zombie Archery (21 Oct – 5 Nov), meet and greets with Ghoulish Owls (22 Oct), a Ghosts and Ghouls Halloween Trail (14 Oct – 5 Nov), Creepy Crafts (24 Oct) and lots more. 3) Muncaster Castle Halloween Festival (21st – 29th October 2023)

Are you brave enough to take a trip to Britain’s most haunted castle this Halloween? Munster Castle opens its doors at the spookiest time of year with a Halloween Festival suitable for all the family. Will you be able to find your way out of the spooky maze? Can you face the Frankenstein Castle Tour? Brand new for 2023 is the Scarecaster, an immersive poltergeist experience not for the faint of heart!

4) Halloween Half Term & Ghost Tales at Carlisle Castle (21st October – 5th November 2023)

Carlisle Castle have got something everyone will enjoy this Halloween, with family-friendly kids’ activities during half term as well as a grown-ups-only ghost tales experience at the end of the month.

For a spook-tastic day of family fun, grab your broomsticks and prepare to be enthralled by scary stories, ghastly games, Halloween history, and a few special magic tricks and spells from 21st October – 5th November.

As the evening creeps upon you and darkness descends, join historic storytellers as they guide you on a journey through the past, with tales of ghosts, supernatural sights, and horrors from history. This event is strictly for over 16s only!

5) No Trick All Treat at Lakeland Maze Farm (23rd – 31st October 2023)

Eager to get your little ones involved in some family-friendly Halloween fun that won’t scare them too much? Visit Lakeland Maze Farm for their No Trick All Treat experience. With plenty of Halloween characters to meet, fancy dress competitions, a treasure hunt mini maze, a spooky kids disco, and lots more fun and games, the kids are sure to love Halloween at Lakeland Maze Farm!

6) Pumpkin Carving at Allan Bank (24th – 31st October 2023)

Fancy carving up a pumpkin, but not too keen on the mess that goes with it? Take a trip to the National Trust’s gorgeous Allan Bank property, where you’ll find already hollowed-out pumpkins and plenty of carving tools, so you get to have all the fun without any of the mess! At the end of the day, you can take home your creation where you can display it for everyone to see.

7) Twilight Tales at Dove Cottage (25th October 2023)

Visit Dove Cottage, the former home of world-renowned English poet William Wordsworth, this October and discover a whole host of spooky activities including scary storytelling and Halloween crafts. The whole family can enjoy hot chocolate and gingerbread and get dressed up as a gorgeous Georgian, as you learn all about the Wordsworth family this Halloween.

8) Watchtree Halloween Family Day (25th October 2023)

Looking for the perfect day of Halloween family fun this October? Watchtree Nature Reserve is the ideal spot for little ones, with spooky storytelling, a Monster Mile trail through the woodland, and (of course) pumpkin carving. If you’re up for the challenge, put on your best fancy dress – you could end up being crowned Hallow-queen or Pump-king!

9) Halloween at Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway (26th – 28th October 2023)

Take a trip to the historic Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway for some spooktacular fun with children’s themed Halloween activities. Get into the spooky spirit with scary stories at the Ravenglass Railway Museum at 12pm, 1pm and 2pm each day, plus look out for the spooky trail running throughout the half term week.

10) Creepy Keswick Ghost Walks (Ongoing Event)

Embark on a guided ghost walk around Keswick this Halloween, as you discover its horrifying history of murder and tortured souls. Follow The Lady as she takes you around the terrifying town, telling spooky stories based on scary legends, myths, folklores, and real-life events with eyewitness accounts. The only question is, are you brave enough to uncover Keswick’s haunted history?
