Fabulous views of Windermere from this easy hilltop (321m), far better than you could expect from the modest climb. Amazing sunsets. Directions: Signed Cartmel Fell off the A592 (direction LA11 6NR). After 3⁄4 mile find the Gummer’s How car park on R and follow the obvious path opposite up to the little peak.

Whitbarrow Scar Orchid & Juniper

The views from this high limestone pavement, formed 350 million years ago, are incredible. There are orchids, including dark-red helleborines, blue moor grass, and rock roses, growing in the cracks.
